It was the first time that rodents reached the Top 100, but it wouldn’t be the last. Chipmunks Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were adopted by songwriter/manager David Seville, who provided them stability, a schedule of gigs, and parental reprimands. Their first TV show aired in 1961 and was followed by commercial deals with General Foods, more songs, and a litany of TV and film comebacks spanning over six decades.
