National Candy Corn Day – October 30th

National Candy Corn Day – October 30th

First developed by Wunderle Candy Company in 1888, the original name for them was Chicken Feed. Jelly Belly (Goelitz) started making them 10 years later. Today, Brach’s is the Candy Corn King, making about 7 billion pieces per year. It’s one of those candies that is either hated or loved and has become associated with the imagery of Halloween in the United States.

Candy corn keeps for nine months in an unopened package, or, up to six months you’ve already opened the package. Store your candy corn in a dark place at room temperature to maximize that lifespan.

Cocktail Du Jour – Candy Corn Martini

This recipe is from Dan at Mantitlement:

Soak the candy corn in the 6 oz of vodka overnight in a covered jar, then strain out the candy corn. Pour corn syrup on a shallow plate to wet the martini glass rims, then twirl the rims in sprinkles. Divide the vodka by pouring it evenly into your two glasses. Build your martini, pouring half the pineapple juice into each glass using a bar spoon to layer, then the same with the cream.
