National Cat Day – October 29th

National Cat Day – October 29th

Egypt has long been credited as the culture who domesticated cats 4,000 years ago because Egyptian art has been full of cats since that time. They have even found many cat mummies that were buried with their owners. In 2004, researchers discovered a 9,500-year-old cat buried with a human on the island of Cyprus. Apparently, cats were living with people for thousands of years before Egypt existed. Maybe they always have been there for us.

Give your feline friends a special rub today in honor of this long relationship between humans and cats. If you are absent a cat at the moment, shelters collect more than 3 cats million per year, which should be plenty enough for you to choose from. Cat Day was created in 2005 by Pet Lifestyle expert and animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige.  This holiday has helped save the lives of more than one million cats.
