National Hug a Drummer Day – October 10th

Hugging may not be your first instinct when meeting a drummer, since there is always the chance they could start tapping on your back in a way that makes the embrace incredibly awkward (or at least insincere), and yet…drummers need hugs too.
According to the Urban Dictionary and the Drummer Death Theory, you never know when a rock band drummer is gonna kick the bucket. Plus, let’s face it—without a good drummer most bands would just be all over the place, so they deserve some kudos.

Here are the top 5 drummers of all time according to Rolling Stone’s Top 100:
5. Hal Blaine – The Wrecking Crew, The Beach Boys, Sinatra (died of natural causes at age 90) The number 1 songs Hal played on.
4. Neil Peart – Rush (died of brain cancer). Tom Sawyer drums.
3. Ginger Baker – Cream (died of presumably natural causes at age 80, although while alive, he heard on the radio that he had died from a heroin overdose). Toad drums.
2. Keith Moon – The Who (overdosed on the drug that was supposed to wean him off booze at age 32). Moon at his last concert.
1. John Bonham – Led Zeppelin (died from a vodka overdose at age 32). Moby Dick drum solo.
