Cutting edge science in 18th century Scotland led to the universal cure for sore throats and congestion from the winter cold. The name Toddy probably comes from Todian Springs in Edinburgh, Scotland, which was used to make local whiskey. The first written recipe known for a “Hot Toddy” comes from The Bartender’s Guide by Jerry Thomas in 1862. Whether your aim is relieving your cold symptoms, getting some good sleep, or simply to warm your spirits in the dreary months, the Hot Toddy is your ticket to satisfaction.
FYI: Alcohol does not mix well with some prescription drugs, so please think twice before mixing your Hot Toddy with drugs. You can substitute the whiskey with more hot water or use a non-alcoholic brand like in the mocktail below and you will still receive benefits from the drink.
