Frederick Douglass Day – February 20th

On this day in 1895, Frederick Douglass, considered the most important Civil Rights leader of the 19th century, suffered a massive heart attack and died at his home at age 77. It was only a few hours after attending a woman’s suffrage meeting in Washington, D.C. Susan B. Anthony had escorted him to the stage and he’d received a standing ovation.
