On this day in 2016, Roy Batty was born, or rather, “incepted” by the Tyrell Corporation as a Nexus-6 combat replicant. This class of replicant was created with enhanced strength, agility, resilience, and mental acuity to excel in military operations, exploration, and to provide productive labor in harsh working conditions. The Nexus 6 was also designed to live for only four years to prevent them from acquiring prolonged autonomy, as their physical and mental superiority could be a threat to humans if uncontrolled.
Rutger Hauer’s Tears in the Rain monologue in Blade Runner is one of the most rewatched scenes in the film. It reveals the author’s viewpoint of the distorted morality that guides this plausibly future world. In the monologue, Batty, a physically perfect creation who at first appears as an antagonist, reflects on the incredible experiences he’s had now that he’s at the end of his short life, ironically becoming one of the most human characters in the story.

Cocktail Du Jour — Soaked in Blue
Of course, it’s Johnnie Walker Black Label neat if you’re a straight whiskey and Rick Deckard fan, but for cocktail enthusiasts we chose a theme cocktail from factorytwofour.com:
- 3 oz gin
- 1 oz Blue Curaçao
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 dash Scrappy’s seville orange bitters (worth it)
- 1 dash angostura bitters
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker or stirring glass and stir for 30 seconds. Strain in to a cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
Mocktail Du Jour — Soaked in Blue Mocktail

Beer Du Jour: Any Asian beer, especially Tsingtao, Sapporo, and Kirin.
Wine Du Jour: A forever young wine, like a Beaujolais, or labels from Replica or Batty.
Use freshly squeezed citrus in your cocktails and mocktails when called for – It makes such a difference! Here’s a reliable and inexpensive juicer.
