Captain Marvel Day – March 8th

On this day in 2019, Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, was released in American theatres.

Carol Danvers is an Air Force pilot with amnesia who is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson was de-aged by 25 years to accommodate the 1990s timeframe) helps her remember her past and fulfill her destiny to become one of the universe’s most powerful superheroes.

The character Carol Danvers first appeared in comics in 1968 and eventually evolved into the Captain Marvel we know today after several versions of the hero beginning with Shazam! in 1940 (see full story under Miscellaneous below). The 2019 film was the first female-led superhero movie to pass the billion-dollar mark at the box office.

In a shaker, combine the vodka, strawberry syrup and tonic water with some ice cubes and stir vigorously for 30 seconds. Layer strained shaker contents on top of other ingredients in the coupe glass on the back of a bar spoon so the colors remain separate.

Garnish with a gold candy star skewered across top of glass.
