May the Fourth Be with You – May 4
On this day in 1979, right after Margaret Thatcher was elected British Prime Minister, members of her political party bought a full-page advertisement in the London Evening News that said, “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.” The first Star Wars movie, Episode IV – A New Hope, had been released two years earlier, featuring the phrase “may the force be with you” as a rebel salutation.
On May 4th, 2011, the first official Star Wars Day, presented at the Toronto Underground Cinema, inspired a worldwide observance of Star Wars heroes that has persisted over the years. Star Wars villains are usually celebrated on May 6th (per Revenge of the Sixth). Whether you choose to celebrate Margaret Thatcher on the 4th or the 6th of May is up to you.

- 75 oz Barolo chinato
- 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice for 20 seconds. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with Luxardo cherry.

- 75 Optimist Cali Amaro
- 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
