Cloverfield Day – May 22
On this day in 2008, New York City was attacked by a sea creature whose hibernation had been disturbed in depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Standing at more than 300 feet high, the creature wreaked death and damage throughout Manhattan.
The name Cloverfield is the government case file name describing the event. Film footage was recovered from a group on the ground using camcorders that documented the chaos of the day, which has since become an important record of the Cloverfield incident and its survivors.
The Cloverfield Universe, or Cloververse, includes a set of dark, suspenseful stories produced by J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot: Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and The Cloverfield Paradox. The films have different plots and characters but share the same disturbing tone and the promise of terrible and imminent threats.

Cocktail Du Jour – The Clover Club Cocktail
Named after a NYC gentlemen’s club, this drink has been around since the 1880s.
- 2 oz gin
- 5 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 5 oz raspberry syrup*
- 1 egg white
Dry shake (without ice) all ingredients for 20 seconds. Add ice to the shaker and shake again. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with three skewered raspberries.
*To make the raspberry syrup: Simmer 1 cup of sugar in ½ cup of water until dissolved. Add ½ cup of fresh raspberries and continue cooking on low heat for 30 minutes. Fine strain into a mason jar.
Mocktail Du Jour – The Clover Club Mocktail
- 2 oz non-alcohol gin
- 5 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 5 oz raspberry syrup*

The film was originally named after Cloverfield Blvd. in Santa Monica, CA. Three blocks from the boulevard is the Santa Monica Brew Works, the city’s first and only independent craft brewery.
