King Tut Day – November 4th

Holiday: Peter Weyland Day

On this day in 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of the Egyptian Boy King, Pharaoh Tutankhamen, and spent the next 10 years excavating and cataloguing its contents. Tut was last of his royal family line in the 18th Dynasty (c. 1332 – 1323 BC), born to pharaoh Akhenaten, who had established a monotheist religion (unpopular with nobles and priests at the time) and his father’s sister/wife. There is speculation that Queen Nefertiti may have acted as Akhenaten’s coruler and as regent to young Pharoah Tut who died at age 19.
The discovery of such a rich tomb, untouched by thieves, began a new era of Egyptian interest. Artifacts were shown in exhibitions around the world. Fiction and non-fiction about King Tut’s family, ancient Egypt, and mummies became obvious topics of interest and still manage fascinate curious minds.

Beer Du Jour

Delirium Red Belgian Ale

It is said that Ancient Egyptians preferred their beer sweet, spiced, and dark red. If you find a brewery trying to recreate an ancient recipe you should try it. They are hard to find in stores.

Wine Du Jour

Egyptian Koroum of the Nile labels if you can find them. Modern Egyptian vines were seeded from Lebanon vines, so Chateau Musar labels, which are easier to find, may be close to what you’d drink in Egypt.

Use freshly squeezed citrus in your cocktails and mocktails when called for – It makes such a difference! Here’s a reliable and inexpensive juicer.
