Magic Bullet Day – November 22nd

Holiday: Peter Weyland Day

On this day in 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy (JFK) was assassinated while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. As the presidential limousine approached the Texas School Book Depository, shots rang out. Kennedy was struck by bullets to the upper back and neck area and to the head and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Lee Harvey Oswald, a former Marine with connections to Russia and pro-Castro and anti-American organizations, was arrested for the assassination. Oswald was shot and killed two days later by nightclub owner Jack Ruby before he could stand trial.
The evidence was clear that Oswald had fired three shots from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository, one of which missed the motorcade completely, leaving two bullets to do the rest of the damage (if he was the only shooter). The “magic bullet” theory proposed by the Warren Commission, who ran the official investigation of JFK’s the assassination, was the assertion that one of those bullets passed through Kennedy’s neck, then struck Governor Connally, causing multiple injuries, and finally ended up in pristine condition on a hospital stretcher. Critics argue that the trajectory and damage caused by this single bullet are impossible, suggesting instead that there must have been multiple shooters or that the physical evidence was misinterpreted or mishandled. This theory has fueled numerous conspiracy theories, with skeptics pointing to inconsistencies in eyewitness accounts, medical reports, and the physical evidence as reasons to doubt the official explanation. The debate over the magic bullet theory continues to this day.
