Dick Clark (Perpetual Youth) Day – November 30th

Holiday: Peter Weyland Day

Today is a tribute to the world’s oldest teenager, Dick Clark, who was known to defy the affects of aging, both physically and mentally.
Dick began hosting American Bandstand in 1957 at age 27 and hosted the last regular show in 1987, promoting rock n’ roll, disco, and hip-hop hits as pop evolved through the decades. Most of the famous bands in that 30-year span had their first television debut on American Bandstand, which provided instant national exposure to musicians like Madonna, Tina Turner, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Simon & Garfunkel, Iggy Pop, and the Talking Heads. The show was also recognized for promoting desegregation in popular music by prominently featuring African American musicians and dancers.
He went on to host Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square every year, and the $100,000 Pyramid. Dick Clark Productions produces the Golden Globe Awards, American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and So You Think You Can Dance.
