“There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it, you need to be as mad as a hatter…which luckily I am.”
Alice in Wonderland illustrator, John Tenniel, drew “10/6” sticking out of the Hatter’s hat. The 10/6 refers to the cost of a hat—10 shillings and 6 pence. It’s also how today became the Mad Hatter’s holiday. In the spirit of Beverage Du Jour, the Mad Hatter is known for throwing frequent tea parties to celebrate “unbirthdays”.
The Hatter is one of only three characters to be featured in both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. Can you guess the other two?
