They dig complex burrows up to 9 feet deep and 20 feet long, with branching chambers. A group of wombats is called a “mob.” Young wombats can stay in their mother’s pouch for up to 20 months. A wombat’s marsupial pouch faces backwards, which is useful, but makes for an embarrassing selfie for that young, social-media-savvy wombat who still lives at home.
