World Coconut Day – September 2nd

There are three round indentations on the surface of a coconut that resemble eyes and a mouth.
When Iberian explorers found coconuts in their travels, it reminded them of Coco, the ancient bogeyman, a ghostly figure that made bad children disappear. Back in Spain and Portugal, the Coco-Nut became popular as kids everywhere took revenge on the boogeyman by creating effigies of the evil ghost, bashing in his skull, drinking his milky white blood, and chewing out the chunky white meat within his face with a manic glee that only bad children can muster.
The first observance of World Coconut Day took place on this day in 2009, commemorating the creation of the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) who influence much of the world’s coconut production.

Music Du Jour: There are an alarming number of children’s songs about coconuts. If those get on your nerves, try some Coconut Club tunes or Hawaiian vibes.
